2023 is the self-declared year of the Kestrel. Happy Kestrel New Year! Did we say, Happy Kestrel New Year! The excitement builds as the new licensing model roles out, as a standards-compliant TSCM application, supporting a our Total Energy Capture (TEC) methodology. Spectrum management is no longer a simple task of “spectrum analysis” and requires that the technical operator apply TEC across an Operator Defined Target Area (ODTA) and into the extended Functional Target Area (FTA). Taking a reference trace at a distance totally outside of the ODTA is an obsolete concept that has absolutely no relevance to the mission at hand in today’s spectrum reality. Training in so-called special project rooms is smoke and mirror feel good training that brings a false sense of confidence to technical operators who are taught limitations, rather than out of the box creative solutions to unique scenarios. Kestrel training teaches how to approach any assignment, and not the limitations of a fake hotel room. Learning by limitation, is nonsense and informed technical operators should recognize this and challenge any training that relies on such instructional principles. A simple generic practical training environment is all that is required. 2023 will see powerful new technology innovation that will literally take the mighty Kestrel to an entirely new altitude (in Kestrel speak). There are simply no more arguments for not joining the Kestrel community this year. The best SDR hardware support, the best features in the industry, the best overall value and cost, the best reputation, and the best Canadian-based technical support. The 91st edition of the Kestrel TSCM Newsletter is available for viewing or download. The Canadian Technical Security Conference (CTSC 2023) is shaping up to be an amazing post COVID event. We are attending the S&P Home Office Security Event in the United Kingdom in March 2023 and running the Certified Technical Operator (CTO) training the following week in London, United Kingdom. Our free All Things Kestrel | Free Virtual Classroom program is continuing for the entire year.
